Une affirmation historique est d’abord vérifiée dans le dossier de classement, le National Record of the Historic Environment, des archives ou une étude universitaire. Les sources touristiques seules ne tranchent pas une question contestée.
Gérer les désaccords
Lorsque les sources diffèrent — par exemple sur 1895 et 1897 — le site expose la différence au lieu de choisir artificiellement une date unique.
Corrections
Les nouvelles preuves sont les bienvenues lorsqu’elles peuvent être contrôlées : cote d’archive, article daté, notice de musée, provenance d’une photographie ou publication spécialisée.
