What the event was
The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race returned to Oban as a host port from 10 to 19 July 2026. Ocean-racing crews and their 70-foot yachts arrived in the bay before the final race leg, while Oban’s waterfront hosted a wider Festival of the Sea programme.
Dates, location and tickets
The public-facing stopover centred on Oban Bay and the North Pier area. Many viewing opportunities were free, although individual programme activities could have separate booking requirements. The permanent event page preserves the checked dates and organiser links.
Travel and access
The waterfront is downhill from McCaig’s Tower and close to Oban railway station, bus stops and the ferry terminal. Large waterfront events can make central parking busy, so public transport and walking are often the simplest options. Access conditions varied across outdoor and temporary event spaces.
Combining the event with McCaig’s Tower
McCaig’s Tower gives a broad view across Oban Bay, but yacht positions and visibility depend on the race programme and weather. Allow time for the steep return climb and do not rely on the viewpoint as a substitute for official race information.
