Spring and early summer
Longer daylight gives visitors more flexibility, while changing weather can still bring rain and wind at short notice. The garden and surrounding vegetation may be part of the experience, but the architecture and view remain the primary reasons to visit.
High summer
Oban is busiest during the main visitor season. Allow more time in the town and avoid assuming that limited parking close to the monument will be available. Clear evenings can provide long views, although haze can reduce distant detail.
Autumn and winter
Lower light can give the stone and arches a different character. The climb, steps and surfaces may also be wetter, darker or more slippery. Wear suitable footwear and do not rely on the site providing shelter.
